On March 3-5, the swimming team competed in the New York State Championships. After a great first day of trials the team had qualified all 3 relays in the final heat with various swimmers in the top 16 in individual events. Going into last day, the team was in 3rd place overall. Joe Casino, Dale Wallace, Billy Feirro Joyce and Pat Banks started the finals off by getting 6th in the 200 Medley Relay and resetting the school record. Brian Hogan and Joe Eiden added to the point total with 9th and 13th in the 200 free, Pat Conaton finished 10th in the 100 free and 10th in the 100 Backstroke, Sean Lyons was 20th in the 500 free, Dale Wallace was 10th in the 100 Breaststroke with Dan Murphy 15th in the 100 Breaststroke. The 200 Free relay of Pat Conaton, Declan Kennon, Pat Banks and Jospeh Eiden moved up to 4th place also resetting a school record. Senior Joe Casino finished 5th in the 100 Back in a new school, League and Metro State record and combined with key individual swims by Brian Hogan 3rd in the 500 free and Joe Eiden 5th in the 500 free, the team put itself into a scenario where if they won the last relay they would win the state title as a school. With a state title on the line in the last event of the Championships, the relay of Patrick Conaton, Brian Hogan, Joe Casino and Joe Eiden dropped three seconds to shock the final heat by winning the 400 free relay- setting a school record, league record and metro state record to capture the team’s first team State title. Congratulations to the team-2011 Fordham Prep Swimming and Diving, best team in New York State!
